This weekend we ended up back again at @littleblon This weekend we ended up back again at @littleblondiebakehouse for an end of term(ish) treat or two.

Nothing makes us recommend somewhere more than when our kids keep asking to go back, and Little Blondie Bakehouse is one of those places. Tucked away on Walmgate, just a five-minute stroll from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, this pretty pink bakery is always worth a visit. The only tricky part is deciding what to order, especially if there’s a queue! Top tip: get there early for the best selection, and remember that tray bakes travel better than fancy cream cakes…

Avoid disappointed faces this summer! In spite of Avoid disappointed faces this summer! In spite of the fact that this is our actual job, we’ve lost count of the times that we’ve tried to book an activity at the last minute, only to find that everyone else has been far more organised and it’s sold out 😩.

Summer is the busiest time in York, so it really is worth planning ahead. These experiences are particularly popular, so don’t hang about if you fancy visiting during the warmer months ☀️

For us, summer = strawberry picking 🍓 Over a dec For us, summer = strawberry picking 🍓

Over a decade ago, we took our kids to The Balloon Tree to pick strawberries, and we had no idea we’d still be going back a decade later. Somewhere along the way, it’s became an annual tradition, and one we’d wholeheartedly recommend.

It’s lovely, good value and a great excuse to spend some time outdoors together. And in October, pumpkins swap in for berries for a gorgeous autumn day out.

With this week’s sad news, we’ve found ourselves r With this week’s sad news, we’ve found ourselves reminiscing about one of our favourite family day trips, inspired by David Hockney, one of the world’s greatest artists and a proud Yorkshireman.

For a brilliantly inspiring family day out, Salts Mill in Saltaire is just the place. It houses the world’s largest permanent collection of Hockney’s work in one incredible old mill building that’s free to enter.

It’s a place we’ve been visiting since we were children ourselves, and we’ve been taking our kids since they were little too. There’s plenty for families: bright galleries, a brilliant bookshop, independent shopping and Salt’s Diner, where you can refuel with coffee, cake or lunch before wandering around again.

If you’ve never been, save this and add it to your Yorkshire bucket list. And if you have, you’ll know why we love it.

If you’re up for staying somewhere lovely that you’ll get a huge dose of nature along with your stay, here’s a recommendation for you.

Whether you’re happiest under canvas or prefer a hot tub and a proper bed, @baxbymanor is brilliant for families. From cosy camping pitches and stylish glamping to a magical treehouse, sauna and hot tubs, it’s the perfect place to slow down, switch off and make the most of summer together. It’s just a short drive from everything that York and the surrounding area has to offer, too. We’ve stayed there ourselves and wholeheartedly recommend it for a relaxing break away from it all 🌿🏕️💦

It’s a lovely independent cafe a stone’s throw from the station and the city, serving tasty treats including really good pancakes (some of the best in York, according to our youngest). It’s a hidden gem that we’d recommend seeking out 🥞 ☕️
